You may be unfamiliar with the skincare-first-makeup-second beauty brand Glossier — but it’s unlikely.

Into the Gloss blog creator and Vogue alumna Emily Weiss launched the brand’s first four products in late 2014, and it has garnered unprecedented social media attention ever since.

Glossier has a cult-like following among twenty-somethings, who laud the cosmetics brand’s millennial pink packaging and vow to create “products invented to bring out your best before reaching for makeup.”

Spoiler alert: Glossier keeps its promise.

Skincare for a lit-from-within look

Glossier’s skincare products provide a lit-from-within, fresh faced look before any makeup application. Expect lightweight coverage.

The Super Pure solution ($28) and Priming Moisturizer ($22) make a killer combination for any rushed morning when your skin isn’t looking its best. The pair eliminates redness and soothes skin texture, while adding a subtle glow — almost as if you’ve swiped on a little highlighter.

Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser ($18) is a necessary addition to your skincare regimen. The conditioning face wash leaves skin soft, smooth, and (for the most part) makeup-free. Removing a full face of makeup may require a drop of makeup remover, but the Milky Jelly Cleanser usually gets the job done. Its scent also features a sweet hint of roses.

Perhaps even more reliable: Glossier’s Balm Dotcom ($12). The lip balm comes in six flavors, including two tinted shades: Rose and Cherry. This product leaves lips looking luscious and plump, and it stays on all day. A must-have for your purse, car, desk … need we go on?

The Makeup — Clean, Easy, Pretty

Glossier makeup leaves you looking effortlessly polished. The aftermath is a dewey, flushed, natural look. The application couldn’t be easier.

A few swipes of Glossier’s Haloscope ($22) highlighter on the nose, cheekbones, and brow bones leaves a pretty glow. Brown, black, and blond Boy Brow ($16) makeup leaves eyebrows looking groomed and full. A translucent Boy Brow product allows you to keep stray hairs in place, even if you aren’t looking for thick, dark brows.

The Cloud Paint ($18) liquid blush can be applied with a finger. It’s very pigmented — so apply a tiny drop to cheeks for a femme flush.

Social Media Influence

Glossier sells its products online — with the exception of a few pop-up shops across the U.S. and the U.K., the products have not (literally) hit shelves.

Buying beauty items online may seem risky, but that’s where Glossier’s massive social media influence comes into play. Glossier makeup tutorials are all over beauty influencers’ Instagram and Youtube accounts.

You’ll never be left wondering what to expect when your Glossier package arrives, and that’s deliberate. The brand has skyrocketed to success off of the back of beauty experts on social media.

Glossier is virtually impossible to ignore — and we’re not complaining.
