Insect of the Week: The Fly
The House Fly
Did you know that flies are the most populated insect in the world? These pesky little creatures are known to lay up to 3,000 eggs during their 30 day life cycle. The average fly carries over 200 species of bacteria everywhere it goes. A study conducted in 2011 by the University of Florida found the average house fly carried five different bacteria species know to cause illness. Although most adults have built up a stronger immunity to pathogens, it is wise to keep flies away from infants, seniors, or susceptibly weak people.
