Taking time to relax is a hugely important part of life, and it is essential that everyone takes the time to do it. If they don’t, they can become unwell, either mentally or physical (or even both). Depression, anxiety, heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity (which leads to its own set of problems such as type II diabetes) can all be linked back to stress and not relaxing when we have the chance to.

Essential Oils

Essential oils such as peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and rose (amongst many others), as well as CBD Isolate, can be used to help you relax and even promote better sleep. These can be used in many different ways including a few drops in a warm bath, sprinkled on your pillow, in a candle, or as a massage oil. You can even drink herbal tea in some of these flavors.

However you opt to use them, these oils can reduce stress and make you feel much more relaxed. They will allow you to sleep better, and when you wake, you will feel calmer too. Plus, when you are resting, your body will have the chance to restore itself so that you will feel even better.

Exercise

When you think of how to relax, exercising is probably not what first comes to mind. You will probably believe initially of sitting still or lying down to help you relax. However, as strange as it may seem, exercise really can relax you. It starts with the mind; when you are exercising, you are focused on that task, which means you are not thinking about all the things that are causing you stress. It alleviates that pressure and you will feel good.

Not only that but when your heart rate is raised for an extended period during exercise and activity, your body releases endorphins which are natural mood enhancers. So by hitting the gym or even going for a brisk walk around the block, you can actually be more relaxed.

Breathing Exercises

For those who have very little time to dedicate to the all-important art of relaxation, enjoying breathing exercises can help.

When you are stressed and anxious, or otherwise not in a relaxed state, your breathing will be much more rapid. You might not even realize this is happening, but you will definitely be breathing more quickly. When this happens, you aren’t taking in enough oxygen, and you will feel unwell and even more stressed.

Deep breathing exercises will help to calm you and increase the oxygen flow around your body, so you are able to think more clearly. You can even add meditation to your breathing exercises to manage your stress better.

Listen To Music

There is an old saying that goes ‘music calms the savage beast.’ When that savage beast is stress, then it’s true; music really does help. When you listen to music that you enjoy, your mood will improve, and your stress levels will decrease. The music could be anything – it doesn’t have to be something that the majority of people would call relaxing, such as classical music. If you love to listen to metal or country or rock ‘n’ roll from the 1950s, then that is what you need to do, as this will relax you much more.
