Despite only falling in the second week of January, Hot Toddy Day couldn’t have come sooner. ‘Hot Toddy’s’ are not only one of the most popular cocktails around, but could also be argued to be one of the most beneficial.

The basic ingredients usually consist of; honey, lemon, cloves, hot water and whisky. With whiskey being an effective decongestant, lemon is packed with vitamin C and honey known for soothing a sore throat – a hot toddy is perfect for battling those awful winter colds.

Others, however, might decide to mix it up a bit and add some extra spice, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, chili and pepper – you can even get pre-made Hot Toddy spice mix!

With the U.K also recently entering another national lockdown, people are feeling more lonely and isolated than ever due to a combination of cold weather, dark nights and the restrictions in place – Scientists found that warm drinks can potentially help improve your mental health.
