The Best Whiskys For The Nation’s Favorite Cocktail Hot Toddy


Despite only falling in the second week of January, Hot Toddy Day couldn’t have come sooner. ‘Hot Toddy’s’ are not only one of the most popular cocktails around, but could also be argued to be one of the most beneficial.

The basic ingredients usually consist of; honey, lemon, cloves, hot water and whisky. With whisky being an effective decongestant, lemon is packed with vitamin C and honey known for soothing a sore throat – a hot toddy is perfect for battling those awful winter colds. 

Others, however, might decide to mix it up a bit and add some extra spice, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, chili and pepper – you can even get pre-made Hot Toddy spice mix!

With the U.K also recently entering another national lockdown, people are feeling more lonely and isolated than ever due to a combination of cold weather, dark nights and the restrictions in place – Scientists found that warm drinks can potentially help improve your mental health.

With an alcohol percentage almost 20% higher than most whiskeys, Wild Turkey is bound to add a good kick to your Hot Toddy. This Kentucky born whiskey has a spicy flavor but is still described to be ‘rich, yet mellow’ despite the rather high alcohol content.

Even if you’re not a fan of the hit show, you wouldn’t be able to turn down Clynelish’s tribute to Game of Thrones in your Hot Toddy. Another floral flavored favorite, House Tyrell also has hints of delicious tropical fruits and a creamy vanilla finish – perfect if you’d like a sweeter alternative of the cocktail.
