The Mayfair Hotel, once known as The Historic Mayfair, has recently undergone an extensive remodel including the addition of EVE American Bistro, making it a must-see for LA natives and tourists alike. Dubbed as a hotel “under the influence” the M Bar and Library Bar feature libations galore, ranging from craft beers to mixologies with a 20s flare, even authentic table-side martinis. Named after a character from a Raymond Chandler novel written during his stay at the Mayfair, EVE is a tastemakers delight crafted by Scott Commings, the winner of Hell’s Kitchen season 12. When you consider the rooftop pool and elegant ballroom, The Mayfair is a one-stop-shop for any celebratory affair.

Designed to the Nines

The double doors of the historic building open to the lobby which drips with Gatsby-esque glitz and glamour. Decked out with sophisticated Art Deco design, it features a giant seashell sculpture towering behind the bar, tall cascading velvet curtains, and a subtle black and grey palette with hints of brass. Pops of colorful fine art, curated by Artist in Residence Kelly “RISK” Graval and Ivory Daniel of Regime 72, add a playful contemporary urban element to the main lobby. During the re-opening, a bonafide Banksy was on display.

The lounge is a haven for the local entrepreneur.  The space offers a unique setting perfect for upscale business meetings, or to grab an after work drink while flushing out the details of the latest proposal.  A huge atrium of a glass ceiling overlooks the lobby, drowning the space in natural light. The second floor opens to a beautiful mezzanine, featuring a large olive tree and surrounding hints of greenery, littered with plush sofas and little nooks to cozy up in.

The third floor features an epic ballroom where the very first Oscar party was held. Recently renovated, the new look pays homage to its roots and oozes with Old Hollywood glamour.  Perfect for galas and classy soirées, the remarkable space features high ceilings of the original industrial cement framing, a marble wall complete with fireplace, and the most interesting and intricate crystal chandelier, creating a whimsical convergence of new school and old school style.

EVE American Bistro: Menu Highlights

MiLLLENNiAL had the pleasure of dining at EVE and here are some of the menu’s top picks.

Favorite Cocktail:  The Blue Dahlia

Somewhere between mule and marg, this drink features a silver tequila base with crisp citrusy nuances of ginger and lime.  Topped off with raspberry syrup and egg white adding a subtle tangy sweetness and velvety texture.

Appetizer Must Have’s:  Big Eye Tuna TarTar & Charred Marrow

The tar tar deserves a gold star star for presentation.  Crisp wontons are wrapped waffle-cone style and stuffed with succulent Big Eye tuna.  A spicy aioli and touch of soy adds a creamy zest and just the right amount of flavor making this fresh starter not only delicious but fun to eat!

The Marrow was silky and rich in all the best ways.  Marrow is packed full of flavor which was amplified by the smoky char. Served in-bone, the mildness of the fava beans and simple toasted baguette added subtlety allowing for a very well balanced and satisfying dish.

Main Courses Not To Miss:  Wild Mushroom and Duck Ragu, Seared Sea Scallops & Prime Rib

The duck ragu was robust and flavorful but with a nostalgic element worthy of Nonna’s home cooking.  This was comfort food with an exotic twist. On a bed of handmade pappardelle, the duck meat was slow cooked and incredibly tender delicately pulling apart with each bite and complemented the earthiness of the mushrooms beautifully. Mangia!

The scallops were buttery melt-in-your-mouth perfection, paired with sweet corn and Chanterelles to create a dynamic and aromatic flavor.  Hints of browned butter and lemon add an element of smoky tartness making each bite a collage of interesting flavors.

EVE is very well known for their nuances to trends of the past, and their menu certainly follows suit featuring a signature rotisserie giving the gourmet menu some good ol’ fashion charm. Selected daily and hand carved, the prime rib was tender and juicy, cooked perfectly —medium with a pink center — and paired delightfully with a full bodied red, (Justin Cabernet 2016 recommended). Upon ordering a meat entree, guests are presented with a velvet lined mahogany box displaying an array of cutlery. These unique high quality steak knives hail from an array of European countries including an Italian switch-blade. Choose your weapon and enjoy!

Save Room for Dessert: Pistachio Creme Brûlée

The pistachio custard is divine. Hints of saltiness from candied pistachios make it a delectable indulgence of sweet and savory. Topped with hand whipped cream and a tuxedo chocolate straw make for an irresistible grand finale of the dining experience.

Experience The Mayfair Hotel

The Mayfair is extremely immersive, a little time capsule tucked amidst the hustle and bustle of DTLA and radiates with decades of Los Angeles culture. With a beautiful environment and premier dining experience, The Mayfair is the hot place to be.
