College is one of the transition points in life where you go from being a kid to being an adult. It doesn’t matter which school you go to, you’re going to have a tough time moving from high school routines to college ones. It’s not just the workload, but the social side of things that you need to deal with which comes with a whole new set of frustrations and pressures. With the huge workloads, long hours and strained eyes you can find that stress and exhaustion catches up really fast when you’re at college. When this happens, burnout is on the horizon!

To be able to relax and rest up, you need to figure out ways to step back from the workload and chill out. Whether your choice is a gravity bong with friends or chilling out at the gym sauna, you need a vice. Vices don’t have to be unhealthy, but they do have to relax you and make you feel ready to take on the day.

So, with that in mind, check out these 7 ways to relax in college:

#1- Reading

Reading can take your mind off of what you’re doing in your college day. Sinking into a good book can take your mind away from how busy things are. Make sure that you choose a book not on your reading list so that you can truly escape.

#2 – Quality Time

Get together with your friends and hangout. It doesn’t have to be anything exciting: a Netflix night works well, and you can chill out and laugh for a while. College is so hectic that time out of it all to vent with friends can really help!

#3 – Recreation

Get away from the campus for the day. Head to a museum and go and explore the town in which you now live. Your college is going to be interesting, but the local area is a new one to explore and you can shake off the cobwebs and get out.

#4 – Exercise

Going for a workout is one of the best ways that you can relax. It sounds counterproductive, but the stress you are under being burnt off in a workout can be a great way to feel good. It’s never easy to feel stressed, so it’s important to figure out ways to burn it off.

#5 – Find a Passtime

Don’t let go of your hobbies while you are in college. It’s important to keep going with the things that make you smile and give you a way to release some study tension.

#6 – Be in Nature

Walking and finding walking routes to hike on can really be a great way to relax in college. When you spend so much time cooped up in libraries and study groups, the best thing that you can do is to get out into the air and breathe it in. You may also find others with a similar interest in hiking when you are out, and you can then go and join a walking group, too.

#7 – Talk It Out

There’s nothing more relaxing than talking to someone when you feel the world on your shoulders. Counsellors at college can help you with your relaxation techniques and alleviate any worries you may have!
