Most of us own at least one pair of sunglasses. They are a great way to create a different look as well as being essential for protecting our eyes. Provided you choose wisely, you can enjoy wearing your sunglasses for decades. These tips will help you to do exactly that.

Start your search online

When it comes to options for new lenses, you cannot beat online retailers. They sell practically every shape and style of frame you can think of.

Cat’s eye, round, oversized, narrow, square… you name it they have them. Just click this link to see more options.

Don’t be afraid to try out something different

If you have not done so for a while, try on some different frame types. Don’t just assume that a shape that did not suit you when you were younger will not work for you now. As you age the shape of your face changes slightly, as do your tastes. So, don´t be afraid to experiment and explore. Probably the easiest way to do this is to use the “try on” apps that most online eyewear retailers provide on their sites.

Before you do, we suggest that you watch this short video. It explains how to work out which frames are likely to work best for you and your face shape.

Consider ordering a pair of prescription sunglasses

Most of us know that we should be wearing sunglasses all the time when outside, certainly during the warmer months. Not doing so leaves you running the risk of developing serious eye diseases like cataracts or macular degeneration. If you wear glasses and find yourself regularly forgetting to put your sunglasses on when out and about consider buying a prescription pair.

This enables you to put them on and keep them on. You will be able to read and drive without having to change your glasses. Usually, you will naturally end up wearing them for a bigger percentage of the day than you would normally do.

Rework what you already own

Our last suggestion is to hunt down any old pairs of sunglasses that you own and consider wearing them again. This is an especially good option if you opted to buy a classic design. For example, Aviators and Wayfarers have never gone completely out of fashion.

So, if you own a pair of them, why not start wearing them again? As you can see here it is not hard to fix most of the issues that an old pair of glasses are likely to have.

If you do decide that you do not like any of the ones you already own, put them up for sale. You will be surprised by how much a pair of retro sunglasses can fetch when sold on an auction site.

Make sure that they do protect your eyes properly

Lastly, but by no means least, make sure that the sunglasses you buy will provide proper protection for your eyes. The best way to do that is to only buy ones that state on the label that they provide 100% protection from both UVB and UVA rays.
