Being a solopreneur presents a unique situation where you’re in control of just about everything. This can be beneficial – you decide when you work, how you work and can save money by not paying any employees! However, it presents some downsides as well, the main one being you have a lot to think about, so it’s very hard to remain organized.

Pretty quickly, you start to see issues where you forget things or can’t find important documents/data. With no employees to help you stay organized, what can you do? Well, here are a few ideas that should help you stay on top of things:

Color coordination

Color coding things is such a simple way of keeping everything neat and organized. You can get colored paper to keep documents organized, colored folders, and even color-code things on your computer. In your calendar or diary, you can highlight things in specific colors so you know what they mean – it helps to make everything stand out and easier to find. This should help you avoid losing things around your workplace!

Schedules

Work schedules are essential if you want to avoid being disorganized. A schedule lets you know what you are doing and when you are doing it. Every day, you will know exactly what lies ahead of you, stopping you from forgetting about certain tasks. A schedule will let you know when you have to make an important call or when you need to complete a project. It is simply the easiest way of staying organized and you have no hope of running a business without one!

Store most of your data digitally

Avoid using physical storage if you want to be an organized solopreneur. Yes, there are certain things that need to be stored away in filing cabinets, but not everything. Most of your information, documents, and data can be stored digitally. This keeps them on a drive in your PC – or you can back them up to the cloud. Either way, it is instantly easier to keep all of the information organized. Let’s say you need to find a document, all you have to do is search for it on your device, and you will be presented with it. It’s much easier than rooting through filing cabinets looking for something!

Set up alerts

Lastly, use your phone or computer to set up lots of alerts for you. They will go off at specific points in the day, telling you that you need to do a specific task. Again, align them with your schedule and you will find it easier to go through it and remain organized. It’s all about keeping you on track and ensuring you remember what needs to be done.

Try these ideas if you are struggling to stay organized when running your business. While the tips are geared towards solopreneurs, you can apply them to any business as well. The idea is that you have more control over your business and all of the information in it.
