Need a New Bed? Here’s How to Choose The Best One For You

Millennial Magazine - new bed

It is no surprise that millennials are part of the smartest shoppers you can find. From easily checking out online stores to researching product reviews, they’re exceptionally savvy. Although even for them, some high-ticket purchases can be quite intimidating.

We would like to discuss mattresses and why there shouldn’t be much pressure when buying a new bed. We aren’t saying that it isn’t important to choose the right mattress; we just feel that choosing a mattress shouldn’t be very difficult. That’s the reason we have created this guide to make the process easy for you.

This guide contains the things you should consider when choosing a mattress. Before you click on the “Add to Cart” button, make use of our tips to ensure you are set to invest in the bed that’s best for you.

1. Know the basics about the types of mattresses

We are not saying you should be a walking encyclopedia containing mattress knowledge before purchasing one, but it’s surely beneficial to understand the fundamentals of different types of mattresses. With that, you’ll be able to choose wisely based on your knowledge and preferences.

Below are the basics you’ll Noelle see when you want to get a mattress at a store:

  • Sizes: The most common mattress sizes include (from largest to smallest) California King, King. Queen, Full/Double, and Twin. The twin is normally used by a teen or child, the Queen size mattress is excellent for millennials, and the California King is ideal for couples who’d like to spread out.
  • Types: In general, mattresses are categorized and named according to the materials used to make them. We’ve got several choices, and they all have their merits and demerits. Depending on your comfort preferences and budget you can consider any of these: organic, adjustable, pillowtop, hybrid, foam, and innerspring. Each of these categories has its own subcategories.

2. Don’t decide based on what you see on social media

It’s no news that social media plays a huge role in the decisions millennials and Gen Z make while shopping. Although several individuals know how social media ads work, people can still be cleverly fooled by disguised product placements.

Here is an example. You can definitely think of a ton of mattress brands right now, and all of them are most likely dominating social media. Influencers on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram can show you a mattress that they just started loving – but the truth is that it is acutely an ad that the mattress brand paid for

We definitely aren’t saying that you can’t find a quality mattress on social media. Nevertheless, you don’t want to decide solely based on what you saw online.

3. Ask questions

In a top mattress store, the focus of the sales team is helping people to get the best mattress, not only the money they’re going to make from the sale. Ensure that you select a mattress store that has a strong reputation so that you won’t be shopping in an uncomfortable situation.

While weighing your options in a store, you should ensure to always ask every question you have. There isn’t any “dumb question” as far as mattresses are concerned, especially because they don’t expect you to be an expert in such subjects. They’re ready to help you make the best decision, so ensure you take advantage of their knowledge.

4. Don’t just think the firmer mattresses are the better ones

It’s quite a common thought that the best mattress options out there are the firmer ones. And although the firmer ones are excellent for some people, it is not necessarily the best for everyone. Your selected mattress should be in alignment with your sleep habits, need for support, preferred sleep position, lifestyle, and some other factors. We can’t say a type of mattress is “one-size-fits-all” because the most important thing is personal comfort.

5. Mattress Care

As soon as you get your mattress, ensure you let it air for about 4 hours. That’s to get rid of any storage smells of cold or damp. You should ideally air the mattress weekly by removing the linen from your bed. Remember to regularly turn your mattress too. This will prevent dips from forming and your weight affecting part of the mattress resulting in uneven sleeping.

You can also keep your mattress clean by using a mattress protector. This is the sheet you use before your bed linen to prevent your mattress from being stained or dirty.
