How to Prepare for a Romantic Valentine’s Day

Millennial Magazine - valentines day

Taking place on the 14th of February, Valentine’s Day is traditionally the most romantic day of the year with its history dating back to the 3rd-century. Believed to have been named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest that lived in Rome who married soldiers to the women they loved when it was illegal to do so.

It wasn’t until 200 years later that the Pope created Valentine’s day and then it took a poet from the middle ages to link the special day to love. Even since, it has been celebrated romantically by much of the world.

Now that you know the history of Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to know the best way to celebrate it.

Start with the basics

Some traditions never change and keeping it simple is the best way to start your Valentine’s Day planning. Create a romantic playlist on Spotify, light some candles to create a wonderful aura and mood lighting and get your sexy red lingerie on.

Book a romantic meal

Talking to your partner is the best way to spend your Valentine’s Day and what better way to do that than over some delicious food and a bottle of champagne. Reminisce on the wonderful times you have spent together over the years and fall in love with them all over again.

Choose a gift for your loved one

The average person spends £23 on their partner on Valentine’s Day and while that may be lower than you’d spend on Christmas or their birthday, it is still a budget you can work with.

Find a gift that represents your love for them and make it personal so they feel extra special during the month of romance.

Of course, you aren’t limited to this budget and some people choose to go all out for their partner. If this is the case for you then you may opt for jewelry that can be personalized to make your partner feel unique when they wear it.

Dress to impress

If you’ve been with your partner for a long time then you may have stopped dressing to impress all the time and got comfortable seeing each other in your loungewear. This year, however, get your best clothes together and remind your partner how great you look in a smart suit or dress and they’ll be starstruck ready for your date night.

Book a trip

For ultimate privacy, book a romantic weekend away for Valentine’s Day and leave any responsibilities – or kids – at home as you get away and enjoy yourself with some wonderful one-on-one time.

Book a cottage in the Cotswolds or go to a luxurious spa for massages and fun by the pool, you won’t regret it.
