If you have a basketball court or are planning to have one, you are in the best place. We will discuss some of the things you can do on a basketball court.
Gatherings and Meetings
If you have a basketball court at your home, it can serve you when you have a function and have to host a large number of people. There is enough space to arrange more than 50 seats on a basketball court.
The best is if the court is outdoor. People can enjoy a natural breeze during the meeting. The people can also have their meals in the same place. You only need to be careful not to leave the court untidy.
Training and Coaching
A basketball court is a great place to engage in physical exercise. You can have your routine jogging exercise in the mornings or evenings. You can also have aerobics sessions on the court because it is a flat surface.
For someone who wants to be better or a professional at basketball, they train on the court. You can do personal training to perfect a given move. Also, you can exercise as a team with your coach.
A basketball court can be very beneficial at home. You can coach your children or hire a coach to teach them the game. It is an excellent way to keep your children physically active, which is good for their health.
Cleaning
Lest we forget, a basketball court should be clean. Different courts demand different ways of cleaning. A basketball court can be made of hardwood or asphalt, or it could be multipurpose.
Asphalt is commonly used for outdoor courts. You should sweep the court with a broom or air blower at least once a week to remove any substances that shouldn’t be there like leaves and other debris.
If you have a gathering of people on the court for a function, you are advised to clean it after the meeting, especially if you had meals during the function.
For a hardwood basketball court, you can use a traditional dust mop to remove loose dirt and debris. A wet microfiber mopping can be excellent for deep cleaning. You should clean the court every day if it is used daily.
Playing Basketball
Well, that could be obvious, isn’t it? Playing basketball game is the most common activity to do on a basketball court. There are different games you can play on the court depending on the need.
H-O-R-S-E-– the most common basketball game where two players take turns shooting at the hoop.
Firing Squad– all players take a shot at the same time. The first one to make the shot wins.
Around the World– two or more players play this game in turns. A player makes consecutive shots starting by making a layup, then a shot between the basket and free-throw spot, then a free-throw shot, a 20-foot throw, a three-point shot, and lastly, a half-court shot.
The player makes the same shot, now in reverse order going to the basket.
Sharks and Minnows– One or two players are sharks and stand half-court facing the baseline and don’t have a basketball. The other players are minnows and make a line on the baseline facing the sharks and have a basketball each.
The minnows are to dribble the ball from baseline to baseline without losing it to a shark or without the shark forcing it out of bounds. The shark is to snatch the ball from a minnow or knock the ball out of bounds.
These are just a few of the basketball games you can play on a basketball court.
Play Different Sports
The most common sports you can play on a basketball court other than basketball are tennis, badminton, and volleyball.
Their courts are more or less similar to that of basketball. All you need is to make temporary markings of the said court, set up a net, and start playing.
For example, a single basketball court can be partitioned into four badminton courts. So you can have as many people playing badminton games on a basketball court as possible. It is however more favorable if the court is indoor.
But for tennis and volleyball, you can play whether indoor or outdoor.
Maintenance and Repair
A basketball court should be maintained for any damages. For example, it is prudent to re-mark the court when it appears that there is a part that has faded.
Asphalt or concrete courts should be resurfaced every four to five years. For hardwood court, it is recommended that you replace the floor every 10 years.
