Legendary items are some of the most iconic and sought-after gear in World of Warcraft. They come with deep lore, unique effects, and stunning visuals, often pushing players to grind for weeks to get their hands on one.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the most powerful legendaries in WoW. They’re all still available in-game, so if you need a hand obtaining them—or leveling up, farming WoW Classic gold, or gearing up in Retail—WowVendor has you covered with fast delivery, a huge selection of boosts, and the best prices on the market!

Top Legendary Items in WoW

1. Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

You could say this is where it all began, as Sulfuras was the first-ever legendary weapon designed for players to obtain. This fiery hammer has a chance to hurl a fireball at your target, dealing massive instant Fire damage and even more over time.

Every time the wielder takes melee damage, Sulfuras strikes back, returning a portion of the damage to the attacker. And let’s be real—it looks absolutely insane: a molten weapon pulsing with raw elemental power, perfectly embodying its creator, Ragnaros the Firelord.

Sulfuras is a craftable weapon, but to create it, you’ll have to loot two other items first. One is the Eye of Sulfuras, obtained from Ragnaros in Molten Core.

Next up is the Sulfuron Hammer, crafted using plans from Lokhtos Darkbargainer in exchange for Sulfuron Ingots, which you can get from Golemagg in the same raid.

While Sulfuras doesn’t grant any game-breaking effects beyond raw damage, we couldn’t leave it off this list as it’s an absolute icon, symbolizing WoW’s early days.

2. Nasz’uro, the Unbound Legacy

Introduced in Patch 10.1 of Dragonflight, Nasz’uro is not just the only Evoker-exclusive legendary—it’s also the first and only Fist Weapon legendary in WoW.

To obtain it, you’ll need to farm a Cracked Titan Gem from Scalecommander Sarkareth in the Aberrus raid. Once you have the gem, the legendary questline begins automatically, sending you on a journey to collect rare materials, loot powerful gear pieces, and dive deep into Evoker lore.

An interesting thing about Nasz’uro is that, aside from a massive stat boost, it doesn’t grant any personal effects to the wielder. Instead, it enhances one of their allies, buffing them whenever the Evoker casts an Empower spell.

3. Rae’shalare, Death’s Whisper

Though added relatively recently in Shadowlands, Rae’shalare quickly became one of the most iconic bows in WoW. A Hunter-exclusive weapon, it once belonged to Sylvanas Windrunner, one of the most legendary hunters in Warcraft history.

This bow drops from Sylvanas in the Sanctum of Domination raid, but getting it is purely RNG-based. Those lucky enough to receive also get a unique ability—Wailing Arrow.

This powerful shot unleashes an enchanted arrow, dealing Shadow damage to the main target and nearby foes and also silencing all affected enemies. The ability became so iconic that a version of it was later added as a talent for Beast Mastery and Marksmanship Hunters.

4. Fangs of the Father

This is a pair of legendary daggers designed exclusively for Rogues. Unlike most legendaries, their special effect doesn’t activate on equip—instead, they work like a tier set bonus when worn together.

The bonus grants you stacks of extra Agility, with each stack over 30 giving you 5 Combo Points and causing your finishing moves to do the same.

To earn these daggers, you must complete an extensive questline starting with Lord Devrestrasz inside the Dragon Soul raid. The journey involves pickpocketing, decoding hidden messages, and taking down multiple bosses, including Deathwing himself.

5. Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest

The Cataclysm legendary from the Firelands raid, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest, is an exclusive weapon for Mages and Warlocks.

Beyond its high item level and stats, this item also has a unique legendary effect: any damage-dealing spell you cast has a chance to be duplicated, dealing 100% of the original damage without consuming any class resources.

Like many legendaries, obtaining Dragonwrath requires farming bosses in a particular raid multiple times while upgrading the staff through a long questline.

Along the way, you’ll meet Tarecgosa, a blue dragon who aids you in forging the staff. In the end, she sacrifices herself but doesn’t actually die by binding her essence to the weapon, ensuring her presence endures within it.

And if that wasn’t cool enough, wielding Dragonwrath also grants you an exclusive blue dragon mount!

6. Warglaives of Azzinoth

The legendary twin blades of Illidan Stormrage himself, the Warglaives of Azzinoth, are among the most iconic weapons in WoW. Equipping both glaives grants two powerful set bonuses—one boosts your Haste, while the other increases your damage against demons.

Players who manage to collect both will also unlock a special achievement. These legendaries are obtained as RNG drops from Illidan Stormrage in the Black Temple raid.

7. Shadowmourne

Introduced in the Icecrown Citadel raid, Shadowmourne was the first legendary axe in WoW, designed exclusively for Warriors, Paladins, and Death Knights.

As one of the most iconic legendary items in the game, this powerful weapon allows melee attacks to drain soul fragments from enemies, increasing your Strength.

Once you’ve collected 10 fragments, you unleash a huge Shadow damage attack, hitting all nearby enemies and gaining a Strength buff.

Serving as a counterpart to Frostmourne, the blade of the Lich King, Shadowmourne has deep lore tied to it, which unfolds as you progress through its epic questline.

The grind for Shadowmourne is surprisingly enjoyable and also very rewarding as you get lots of other great loot along the way.

8. Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

Thunderfury is easily one of the most powerful and longest-lasting legendaries in terms of viability and versatility in the game.

Each strike with this blade has a chance to unleash Nature damage, which then jumps to nearby enemies, reducing their Nature Resistance and attack speed. This made it a top-tier tanking weapon and a must-have for many melee classes.

Similar to Sulfuras, Thunderfury is a crafted legendary. To obtain it, you must loot Bindings of the Windseeker, gather various materials, and ultimately face the blade’s original wielder—Prince Thunderaan.

With deep lore ties and a massive impact on Warcraft’s history, Thunderfury remains one of the most sought-after legendaries in-game. Plus, even by today’s standards, its design still holds up amazingly well, especially being nearly two decades old.
