Redwood Trees

Believed to have been around for almost 240 million years, the redwood is the tallest tree on the Earth. Standing at an average 300ft, the roots of the redwood only grow to about 6 to 12 feet deep. However, in order to withstand powerful winds and floods, redwoods grow in groves and extend their roots 50 feet out to intertwine with the other roots. This creates more strength and stability for the entire grove.
