Transform Your Backyard: 6 Must-Dos for a Memorable Garden Party
In the summer months, there is nothing better than enjoying the sunshine in your back garden with your friends and family members.
Whether you are hosting a BBQ, cocktail night, or a catch-up, having a welcoming space in your garden to host, can bring a lot of enjoyment and pride to your life – having a nice garden shows you care about your appearance and it means you don’t have any embarrassment when inviting people over.
Getting your garden ready for a garden party can be done in several ways. To start with, if you want to get your furniture items ready and cleaned, repainting your decking is preferable, and making sure all your lighting works – lighting is a great way to add another dynamic to your garden.
If you have a dedicated hosting space, getting your bar stocked up and your BBQ tested will make the outdoor gathering go a lot more smoothly. You will need to get your electric lawn mower out beforehand to tidy up your lawn.
If you are having a outdoor gathering in a few days, a week, or within the next month, the sooner you start getting your garden ready, the less stressful the whole process will be.
To help get you started, here is our guide on six ways to get your garden ready for a garden party.
Stock up your outside bar and test your BBQ
If you are hosting guests for a BBQ and you have a dedicated space for your hosting, now is the time to get your BBQ out, give it a clean, and do a test run to make sure it’s working as it should.
As the day approaches, start thinking about stocking up your outside bar with Mojito’s cans, beers, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks for those who won’t be drinking on the day – to make this a little easier for you, we always do an online order for all our drinks a week before, so that you don’t have to go out shopping.
Repaint your decking
If you have any decking, fencing, or a shed, think about repainting them. The longer they go without being touched up, the more faded the paintwork can get and the more tired they will look, making your garden look untidy.
Wood paint is very affordable and easily applied. If you fancy a change, this could be the perfect opportunity to change the color of your decking altogether. Why not take a look over Pinterest to get some inspiration?
Make sure your lighting is working
Lighting plays a massive role in making a space look different. No matter the room – bathroom, bedroom, kitchen – or space outside, front garden or back, your lighting should be a priority.
In the case of your back garden, you can use lights to highlight a pathway, brighten up your hosting space, add additional dynamics to your trees and plants, or highlight an aspect of your garden you are proud of. Lighting is very affordable and can be set up in several ways.
Cleaning your furniture pieces
If this is the first garden party you are having in the year, then the chances are your furniture pieces have been in storage, collecting dirt and dust. A few weeks before you host, consider taking out your furniture items to make sure they are in good condition.
You will probably need to give them a spray down with the hose and put any cushions in the wash, to bring them back to as close to new as possible.
If you haven’t bought any new pieces of furniture in a long time, this could be the perfect excuse to buy a new furniture set, reclinable chair and outside table.
Mowing your lawn
It goes without saying (repeating our point above), that you want to ensure you get your electric lawn mower out and give your grass a trim. Over the winter months, a lot of rain will have fallen on your lawn, causing the grass to overgrow and look untidy.
A quick trim and you’ll be amazed at how different your garden will look. During the summer months, you should aim to mow your lawn every four to six weeks, to keep it healthy and looking its best.
Plant a nice flower display
Pop to your local garden center and buy some nice flowers that you can plant in your garden. Try and buy flowers that are meant to last and can withstand unfavorable weather conditions – you can never predict how nice the weather is going to be and it can quickly change.
Colorful flowers will be a bonus as this will add a nice color when looking out at your garden.
Flowers vary in price, depending on the type of flowers you opt for, meaning you can match whatever budget you have set in your mind.
Preparing Your Garden for the Perfect Garden Party
There are so many ways to get your garden ready for an outdoor gathering. Our best tip would be to put a tick list together of all the things you need to do before the day and tick them off as and when you do them. By having a list, you can make it a little more manageable and less stressful.
You can also then delegate some of the tasks to the people that you live with, whether that’s your friends, husband, wife, or children (if you have kids).
If there is anything that’s going to cost you when getting your garden ready – such as new fence painting – always shop about first, to make sure you are getting a good price. It might be cheaper to order things online than buying in your local store.
