Moon of the Week: Supermoon
A supermoon occurs when a full moon is closest to the earth in its orbit, appearing larger than ordinary. On average, the moon is 238,000 miles from earth, but when it comes closer than 223,694 miles, it is considered a supermoon.
Astrologer, Richard Nolle, coined the term “supermoon” over 30 years ago. Oddly enough, the term has only come into popular use in recent years. In 2014, two occurrences were predicted, the first took place on August 10th, the second is expected to happen around September 28th.
