Tucked away on the sun-drenched island of Key West is the Southernmost Beach Resort (SoMo), a beach haven for all things fun in the sun. Located on the famed Duval Street, the resort’s luxury Guesthouses has recently undergone a $12.5 million cosmetic facelift, combining sleek design with classic coastal charm.

Now a premier destination for those seeking the ultimate Caribbean experience without leaving the United States, SoMo is your ticket to paradise.

Millennial had the distinct privilege of enjoying the newly renovated Guesthouse collection- four meticulously restored 19th-century Victorian homes offering adult-only accommodations and shared community spaces.

For a handful of days, we scoured the island like pirates on the hunt for treasure- discovering a myriad of whimsical locations that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud. The weather was gorgeous, the town was alive, and the locals came out to play.

Throughout our escapade, Southernmost Beach Resort served as a comforting backdrop and home away from home during our week in the tropics.

A Blend of History and Modern Luxury

The Guesthouses, each a uniquely named architectural gem, offer an exquisite blend of modern elegance and rich historical charm. La Mer and Dewey grace the beachfront with their timeless allure, while Avalon, seamlessly integrated into the Duval side of the main resort, exudes sophistication.

Just a few blocks down Duval, sits Duval Gardens, the Guesthouse in the heart of the action. Each house has been transformed into personal retreats that capture the essence of the Florida Keys’ vibrant history and contemporary refinement.

Big Time Design Studios, a renowned Miami-based design firm, orchestrated the Guesthouses’ transformation. The newly introduced color palette draws inspiration from the Atlantic’s teal and aqua hues, complemented by warm coral accents echoing sun-kissed beaches and the island’s famed conch culture.

Brass elements, textured rugs, and patterned textiles fuse with traditional dark wood flooring, striking a harmonious balance between old-world charm and “on-brand’ trends.

Each guesthouse is overseen by its own innkeeper, offering the intimate charm of a bed and breakfast with the amenities and service of a modern resort. Historical and archival black-and-white photography of Key West grace the rooms, inviting guests on a nostalgic journey through the area’s rich heritage.

The shared spaces and manicured landscaping foster a sense of community and connection. Each room comes with its own balcony or veranda. Complimentary breakfast including an omelet station and continental spread as well as afternoon hors d’oeuvres are served overlooking the private beach at Dewey’s Deck.
