After a week of honeymooning in Oahu (you can read more about that here), my husband and I were invited by the Four Seasons Resort Lanai to stay at their property for a weekend getaway. Now, I had heard a few things about this property: the private air transit, the biophilic design, and the remote nature of this hotel, but I was wondering, after over a year of wedding planning and an exciting week in Oahu to kickoff our Hawaiian honeymoon, would a luxury Four Seasons property provide me, a high-output creator, a hard reset, essentially improving cognitive performance by reducing my mental noise? It was a big question, but one worth exploring. What I found wasn’t just another luxury Hawaiian resort, but a property seemingly designed to reduce cognitive overload.
This Four Seasons Lanai review is part of the 2026 luxury travel guide, our living atlas of the world’s most considered places to stay.
A Private Island Vacation Means Private Air Transfer
Before we even arrived at the resort or set foot on the island of Lanai itself, my nervous system already began to reset. Why? Three words. Private air transport. Anyone who books a stay at one of the two Four Seasons properties on Lanai (The Four Seasons Resort Lanai or Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort) will receive complimentary airfare on Lanai Air, one of the two airlines that travel to and from the island.
However, it is not about transportation or private travel; the key takeaway here is removing friction. No crowded airport terminals. No long TSA lines. No chaotic boarding process. No rush. I never thought I could feel a sense of zen at an airport, but I did when I flew with Lanai Air.

When our Uber first dropped us off at the private airport terminal, we walked into a private airport lounge where there were no lines – anywhere, not at check-in, not at security, not for the bathrooms. It was the perfect place to transition from our week on Oahu before we took the 25-minute flight over to Lanai for our first weekend in Hawaii.
Once we checked in and passed security, all of which took maybe five whole minutes, we entered the airport lounge fitted with comfortable seating, flatscreen TVs, and ample outlets for charging devices. There was also a self-serve food and beverage station, which featured hot tea and coffee, jars full of snack bars, and a cooler chilled with a variety of beverages, including bottled water and canned Hawaiian juices like liliko and passion orange.
“You’ll relax in the Lanai Air lounge before boarding your charter flight across the channel, marking a genuine shift in pace from the world you’re leaving behind,” says Lanikai Lindsey, Resort Manager. “Surrounded by lush gardens and warm, gentle air, the pace slows, allowing you to focus on experiences, guided by the intuitive care of our authentic aloha and hospitality.”
This was the perfect place for any aviation aficionados as the private lounge is situated on the far side of the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), giving travelers a front row seat to all of the airline action. While we waited for our flight, we watched the private planes and commercial airliners take off and land all from the comforts of our private airport lounge.
When it was time to board, we exited the lounge and walked straight over to our 8-passenger plane. Though small, it felt like a VIP experience with the absence of crowds, crying babies, and the confusion that often accompanies flights. We took off with ease and said so long to Oahu as we flew over the pristine waters of the Pacific and journeyed over to the Hawaiian island of Lanai.
The Island of Lanai: A Hawaiian Island That Refuses to Rush
The island of Lanai is the perfect foundation for recovery, relaxation, and rest. Upon arriving at the airport, we had a private bus transfer to the Four Seasons Resort Lanai. Forget about car rentals and ride shares, this place knows how to give guests a nervous system reset. With a total population of 3,325 as of 2026, Lanai has very few people, and that means minimal traffic, no urban noise, and an overall slower pace of life, all of which contribute to the perfect place for some wellness travel and a mental refresh.

The Four Seasons Lanai: The Architecture of Calm
Staying at the Four Seasons Lanai is a complete sanctuary of respite. When you first step into the open-air lobby, you are greeted by a sprawling wooden table covered in vases of fresh exotic flowers. Past that, bright blue ocean waters in the distance span from an amazing aqua blue to a deeper shade of sapphire blue. A soft sandy beach beckons in the distance while green palm trees and canvas beach cabanas sprinkle the foreground with brilliantly colored pink hibiscus flowers filling the bushes nearby. The view alone offers guests an instant reset from any creator or founder burnout they may be feeling whether from wedding planning, work, or anything in between.
This property leans heavily into a biophilic design. Rooted in the concept of biophilia, which is the innate human urge to connect with nature, this architectural and interior design framework aims to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being by bringing the outdoors inside, and the Four Seasons Lanai executes this concept exceptionally well.
Besides the ocean views in the lobby, the entire property consists of open-air spaces allowing for natural light, beautiful landscaping complete with tropical flora and fauna, and the peaceful soundscape of nothing but Mother Nature. It is a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively. The lack of visual clutter around the property, with only simple pieces of art, sculptures, or Buddha statues, really sets the peaceful tone and makes you feel like you are in a zen garden located in the heart of Bali. This environment systematically removes friction and overstimulation from your stay.
The Ohana Suite: A Luxury Suite in Hawaii
As we walked through the outdoor hallways as we headed to our room, we got to enjoy the warm Hawaiian breeze on our skin while we listened to the resident Macaws chatting from their spacious outdoor homes. Once we arrived at our own accommodations, the Ohana Suite, we unlocked a level of paradise I never even knew existed.
When you first walk in, you are greeted by an incredibly spacious living room complete with a large dining room table, sofa, and built-in bar. The polished wood walls make you feel like you are living in a treehouse, another excellent execution of the property’s biophilic design. The living room opens up to an outdoor lanai (patio), which offers lush garden views and tropical surroundings with specs of the blue ocean hues off in the distance.

The outdoor lanai also features an outdoor dining table fitted for four, an outdoor lounge perfect for two, and an oversized chair. The lanai conveniently connects to the primary suite, which is tastefully decorated in art and sculptures that were inspired by Hawaiian history. This leaves the Ohana Suite feeling contemporary while still deeply connected to the island itself and without losing its strong sense of place.
One of my favorite parts about the Ohana suite was the two bathrooms, which are perfect for couples, families, or friends. However, the primary bathroom was the real star of the show with a rainfall shower and a Japanese wooden soaking tub that echoed the polished wood from the suite’s living room. It truly is a luxurious tub you can really “sink” into.
From the ample amount of space to the privacy and a touch of ocean views, the Ohana suite provides guests the ability to unplug and easily separate from work mode to reset mode with the two unique spaces all offered in one suite.
Why Dinner Felt Different Here
During our stay, we tasted local fare from a variety of on-property restaurants. Though we did not dine at every spot, this property houses Nobu, Malibu Farm, Osteria Mozza, The Break, Views, and Malibu Farm Bar. Not only was the food and beverage delicious, but meals felt less rushed, conversations and courses lasted for hours, and phone checking was replaced by longer sips of wine and second pours. Cheers to that!
On our first night, we dined at The Break and ordered dinner from the kitchen menu. I started with ahi wonton nachos and enjoyed the poke bowl for my main course, while my husband had the smash burger. I highly recommend the ahi poke bowl, which was the best I have ever had. In all honesty, it was the first I ever had, but every poke bowl after could not even compare. Be sure to save room for their homemade gelato as well, which this spot is known for. The scoops are the size of tennis balls, but that did not stop me from ordering two scoops.

The next morning, we embraced the island vibes and took our time ordering in-room dining that was delivered straight to our outdoor lanai so we could enjoy the lush surrounding landscape and garden views before we eased into the rest of our day. For lunch, we enjoyed some light bites by the pool with an order of the pokeviche.
When you are in Hawaii, the limit does not exist when it comes to poke anything. Finally, for dinner, we dined at the popular spot, Osteria Mozza Lanai. Offering dinner with a picture-perfect ocean view overlooking Hulopoe Bay, Osteria Mozza Lanai blends Chef Nancy Silverton’s signature creations, celebrating traditional Italian cuisine with fresh and seasonal local island ingredients.
This meal was by far our favorite. My husband started with a cocktail while I ordered a glass of red wine. We then ordered meatballs al forno and Nancy’s Caesar salad. I did not realize the salad was deconstructed, so I was a little bummed because I like my salad ingredients all put together, but the presentation was very beautiful.
For our pasta course, we shared two dishes: the garganelli served with ragù Bolognese and the tagliatelle accompanied by an oxtail ragù. We then moved on to the pizza course, where we shared the meat lover’s pizza. Lastly, we ended the night with a sweet treat from the dessert menu, three scoops of gelati from Nancy’s gelato line, and a chocolate torte.
As someone whose mind constantly jumps to deadlines, content calendars, and logistics, I realized halfway through dinner that I hadn’t checked my phone in hours. I think our dinner lasted about three hours, but it was the most luxurious dining experience I have ever had. Not because of the food, which was impeccable, but because of the slower pace the space invited us to partake in.
Lanai Activities That Lower the Volume
Sunset Sail
On our first evening at Lanai, we had the privilege of being a part of the Four Seasons Lanai sunset sail. We watched the sun set over the Pacific while we cruised along the scenic Lanai coastline, complete with lush green cliffs that reminded me of my time in Northern Ireland. As we cruised along, we sipped on cocktails and enjoyed plates of pupus (appetizers) while hoping to find some whales to watch. Unfortunately, we did not see any, but we did come across a pod of 50+ Spinner Dolphins that were not bashful about showing off their spin moves.

It was a total reset for the senses. For sight, an expansive horizon line that went on forever. For sound, the ocean waters splashing up against the sailboat. For smell, the salty ocean air as it flooded our nostrils. For taste, the refreshing and sweet Hawaiian cocktails. For touch, the cool spray of the ocean mist against our skin, tanned by the Hawaiian sun. It was a magical experience where we were able to do just that, experience.
Jeep Exploration
On our very first morning, we were lucky enough to snag one of the property’s 4×4 Jeeps and explore the island at our own pace. The key here is at our own pace. This Four Seasons Lanai experience felt different. Most Hawaii vacations are all about optimizing the perfect itinerary, but we spent the morning simply wandering. Productivity was replaced by curiosity and exploration.

From the Lanai Cat Sanctuary, where we met 700+ adoptable cats from the island, to driving around Lanai City, and ending up at the Garden of the Gods with the most breathtaking views of the Pacific, we had a license to drive, but also to discover with no agenda, no destination, just us and the open dirt road. This Four Seasons Lanai Jeep adventure was a wonderful taste of what freedom felt like and was a fun way to spend the day going wherever the road led us.
Adults-Only Pool
After we spent the morning exploring the island via Jeep, we spent part of the afternoon by the adults-only pool. This adults-only pool in Lanai offers the perfect view of Hulopoe Bay and the golden sand beach down below. We selected two chairs poolside and enjoyed some refreshing bites from Malibu Farms while we chatted with our lounge chair neighbors, who happened to be the sweetest couple.
After lunch wrapped up at the adults-only pool we made our way down to the beach for some unstructured downtime. It was an opportunity to seek simplicity and quiet, well, minus the waves crashing up against the shoreline, which proved to be therapeutic. It was a space that lacked overstimulation and gave us time to think in a way that let our minds just wander without a care or destination to be sought after.
Snorkeling Lanai at Hulopoe Bay
On our last morning, we snorkelled Hulopoe Bay, where we were able to fully immerse ourselves in nature. Unfortunately, I did not last long due to the waves being a bit rough that morning, but my husband was able to experience an underwater environment and focus on just that. There were no screens except for his underwater camera that he used to capture the beauty under the waves. Chasing likes on social media was replaced with chasing fish and following them out to sea.

Is Four Seasons Lanai Worth It?
Okay, so you may be wondering, is the Four Seasons Lanai worth it? In my very humble opinion, yes. Unequivocally. This is probably one of the best luxury resorts in Hawaii. Though family-friendly, I do believe this property is best suited for couples. It’s relaxing, remote, and romantic. From the private air transport to the remote nature of this property and its biophilic design, the Four Seasons Lanai is a reset for the body, mind, and soul, making it the perfect place for high-output individuals.
